With storms on multiple sides of me, I had to sprint almost the entirety of 60 miles to avoid my bicycle getting stuck in mud. Roads like this become completely impassable when they get wet, even after five minutes of rain. Cars are also incapable of driving on them when they turn to the infamous peanut butter mud.

This photograph was made in New Mexico during the final off-pavement stretch on the route. It is a section which I would love to go back and cycle again. I was not able to slow down and enjoy it as much as I would have liked.

During this section, this was one of the only scenes I risked taking the extra time to stop and get my camera out.
